Jersey Care Guide

Fan Jersey Guide · Care

A jersey can last for years if you treat the print and crest properly. The rules are simple: cold, inside out, gentle — and never iron the numbers.

In short

Wash your jersey cold on a gentle cycle, inside out, with similar colours and no bleach. Dry it low or hang it — never tumble dry hot. Never iron directly on the name, number or crest, and don't dry clean. Doing this keeps printed detailing crisp and prevents the crest from lifting.

Washing

  • Turn the jersey inside out before washing.
  • Use cold water (30°C / 86°F or below) on a gentle cycle.
  • Wash with similar colours; don't overload the machine.
  • Use a mild detergent — no bleach, no fabric softener on printed areas.
  • Wash new jerseys separately the first time.

Drying

  • Hang to dry if you can — it's the gentlest option.
  • If you tumble dry, use the lowest heat setting and remove promptly.
  • Never tumble dry hot: heat is what lifts prints and shrinks fabric.
  • Don't wring the jersey to remove water.

Ironing and stains

  • Never iron directly on the name, number or crest. If you must iron, turn the jersey inside out, use low heat, and place a cloth between the iron and the fabric.
  • Treat stains promptly by dabbing with cold water and mild detergent — don't scrub the print.
  • Avoid dry cleaning; the solvents can damage printed detailing.

Storing

  • Hang jerseys on a padded or wide hanger to protect the shoulders.
  • If you fold them, fold around the print rather than across it.
  • Store away from direct sunlight, which fades colours over time.
  • Keep them in a cool, dry place — not sealed in plastic for long periods.

Custom and autographed jerseys

For custom name & number jerseys, follow the same rules and be extra careful with heat around the print. If a jersey is autographed, don't machine wash it at all — spot clean gently and keep it out of direct sunlight.

FAQ

Can I machine wash an NBA jersey?
Yes — cold, gentle cycle, inside out, with similar colours and no bleach. Hang to dry where possible.
Will the name and number peel off in the wash?
Not if you wash cold and inside out and avoid high heat. Heat and bleach are what damage printed detailing.
Can I tumble dry a jersey?
Only on the lowest setting, and hang-drying is safer. High heat can lift prints and shrink the fabric.
How do I stop the crest or numbers cracking?
Wash inside out on a gentle cycle, never iron directly on the print, and avoid dry cleaning.
